The Glenorie District Cricket Club (GDCC) is celebrating a historic achievement, with its Under 14 Girls team crowned champions of the inaugural HKHDCA Stage 2 All-Girls Cricket Competition.

In a standout season, the team demonstrated consistency, resilience, and exceptional teamwork, finishing as Minor Premiers with just one loss. Carrying that momentum into the finals, the girls delivered a commanding performance in the Grand Final, securing the title with a convincing win.

What set this team apart was not just their results on the field, but their collective approach to the game. Every player played a role throughout the season, contributing to a well-rounded and unified team performance.

“This group has been incredible to watch,” a club representative said. “It’s not about individual performances — every player contributed, and that’s what made the difference.”

Beyond their on-field success, the team has earned widespread praise for their sportsmanship and positive attitude. Parents, coaches, and opposition teams alike have commended the girls for their encouraging, friendly, and respectful approach throughout the competition.

GDCC has expressed immense pride in the team, highlighting the strong sense of teamwork and club spirit displayed across the season.

“The way these girls represented the club has been outstanding,” the spokesperson added. “They’ve shown what cricket is all about — teamwork, respect, and enjoyment.”

With the inaugural title now secured, the club is already looking ahead to next season and the continued development of this talented group.

“We’re excited for what’s to come and wish these girls all the very best for the season ahead.”

The achievement marks a significant milestone not only for GDCC but also for the growth of girls’ cricket in the region.

Glenorie District Cricket Club Unveils Long-Awaited Net Facility Upgrade

After years of planning, fundraising, and tireless community effort, the Glenorie District Cricket Club (GDCC) has officially completed a major refurbishment of its cricket training nets, marking a significant milestone for the club and its members.

The project, which has been “years in the making,” was brought to life through a combination of community support, dedicated volunteer work, and key financial contributions. Central to its success was a community grant from the Cricket Australia Infrastructure Fund (CAIF), which provided crucial backing for the redevelopment.

GDCC representatives expressed deep gratitude for the generosity shown by local supporters, particularly acknowledging a substantial donation from Mary Beard. Additional support from Bendigo Bank also played an instrumental role in ensuring the project could be completed to a high standard.

“This upgrade simply wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible support we’ve received,” a club spokesperson said. “From funding partners to local volunteers, it’s been a true community effort.”

The refurbishment delivers modernised training facilities that will benefit players of all ages and skill levels, helping the club continue to grow and develop cricket in the Glenorie region.

Behind the scenes, GDCC committee members dedicated countless hours over several years to bring the project to fruition. Their persistence and commitment were key in navigating the challenges of planning, funding, and delivery.

“This has been a long journey, and it’s a testament to the hard work and passion of our committee,” the spokesperson added. “We’re proud to finally see it completed and ready for our players to enjoy.”

The upgraded nets are expected to enhance training opportunities and strengthen the club’s position as a hub for community sport, ensuring a bright future for cricket in Glenorie.
